How safe is it for a puppy to swallow rawhide chews?

swallowed whole? that would be bad for any dog, but if it's already mushed up from being chewed on then there's realy no damage, i'll be more worried about the puppies teeth. Pups should not be given rawhides until their adult teeth are in. The rawhide itself is to hard for a puppies teeth and can cause the gums to bleed.
