Ferret attack? Would you have done the same thing?

About four days ago I was walking a Ferret for the college that I study at (I am doing an animal care course) then he tried to go under a ledge (if he would have got under this ledge then I would have never got him back), so I pulled on the lead, then I saw that he was wriggling out of the lead, in a state of panic I reached and grabbed onto the ferret, the next thing I know I am holding the lead in between my fingers and he is scratching and biting at my hands, I knew I wasn't supporting him right so I tried to hold him right but he was wriggling everywhere, my mind was all oer the place so I ran into the the clroom where I had left his carrier and put him into the carrier along with the lead (which was no longer attached to him) it was one of those leads that don't have a harness, it just goes around his neck. I looked at my hand and it was pouring with blood, I went to the sink and as I washed the blood away I could see cuts and scratch marks everywhere. A plaster was put over it and after I went through three plasters in three hours I had to fill out an accident form and it was all taken care of. Now, four days later I have a mive wound under my thumb on my left hand and two scratches. Would you have done the same thing?
